What is TurtleTech Data?
TurtleTech Data is TurtleTech’s checkpoint-first research storage product. The Tardigrade native client and protocol store chunked objects and connect them to named checkpoints. DVC compatibility is an interoperability path for existing DVC repositories, not a second product or the primary data model.
Can anyone sign up?
Not yet. TurtleTech Data is in limited preview and access is provisioned manually. Creating a TurtleTech ID does not create storage credentials. Email info@turtletech.us to request access.
Where is my data stored?
The service uses an EU object-storage region. TurtleTech ehf. is an Icelandic company operating under Icelandic and EU/EEA data-protection law. The applicable service terms and subprocessors are linked in the site footer.
Is this S3-compatible?
The managed https://dvc-s3.turtletech.us endpoint implements the DVC
compatibility path. Public support is limited to the documented DVC
configuration; general-purpose S3 clients are not advertised as supported.
How do allowances work across apps?
TurtleTech Data capacity is app-scoped and separate from Ridley, OokCite, and other TurtleTech apps. Objects written through the Tardigrade native protocol and the DVC compatibility path share the same TurtleTech Data allowance. Storage from one app is not silently pooled into another.
Can I use this without DVC?
Yes. The Tardigrade native client is the preferred TurtleTech Data workflow and
does not require DVC. Its tt build is distributed only to provisioned preview
participants; there is no public install command to copy yet.
What are the retention and traffic terms?
They are confirmed during preview provisioning. The plan catalogue publishes storage capacity and price only; it does not promise unlisted transfer, retention, user-count, or response-time terms.
How does billing work?
Billing is enabled only for a provisioned plan. Creating an account or sending a preview request does not start a paid subscription.
What is the Data Processing Agreement?
TurtleTech provides a GDPR-compliant DPA for all customers. The DPA covers data processing scope, sub-processor list, breach notification procedures, and audit rights. Available at turtletech.us/legal/dpa.
